The Wisconsin Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin (UW) System cooperate in a network of Area Research Centers (ARCs) located at UW campus libraries throughout the state and at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. This network allows patrons to borrow archival and manuscript materials housed at an Area Research Center and use them in the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives.

The Wisconsin Historical Society also stores many of its materials at an off-site storage facility. These materials are currently retrieved on Wednesday mornings.

NOTE: Requests usually take a week or two to transfer. You will be notified when your materials have arrived. Not all archival and manuscript materials can be shipped through the transfer system either because of format, size, condition, ownership, or restrictions. Materials housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society will not be retrieved until the patron comes in.
