Solomon Adler was a merchant born in Bohemia in 1816. He came to the US in 1843, first to New York and then Milwaukee in 1847. He assisted in conducting the first Jewish service in Wisconsin, was secretary of the first Jewish Cemetery Association, organizer and secretary of the city's first Jewish congregation and organizer and first president of the consolidated Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun.

Adler was also a retail clothing merchant from 1848-1857. He then joined his brother David in a wholesale clothing firm from 1860 until he retired to New York in 1874.
