Barwig, Charles 1837 - 1912 | Wisconsin Historical Society
politician, businessman, b. Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He came to Milwaukee with his parents in 1845, and graduated from the Spencerian Business College there (1857). In 1865 he moved to Mayville, and engaged in the wholesale liquor business. A Democrat, he served as mayor of Mayville (1886-1888) and U. S. Representative for three terms (1889-1895).
