This veteran French Navy officer was named Governor of Canada in 1726. During his term, he is noted for his continuing warfare against the Mesquakie (Fox) in the west and in encouraging the Abénakis to remain aggressive against New England in the east. He also built Fort Saint-Frédéric on Lake Champlain to check English expansion in northern New York. He administered Canada during King George's War. He was replaced by Barrin de La Galissonière in 1747.
