Boardman, Charles Ruggles 1860 - 1950 | Wisconsin Historical Society

banker, businessman, soldier, b. Empire, Fond du Lac County. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.A., 1884). He worked as a reporter on the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern and, after the paper incorporated (1889), he rose from secretary- treasurer, to business manager, to vice-president. He was adjutant general of Wisconsin (1897-1913), and in this capacity helped increase the efficiency of the Wisconsin National Guard. During World War I he served in France as brigadier general (Wisconsin National Guard) in command of the 64th Infantry Brigade (1917-1918). He was an officer of the Hicks Printing Co., the Globe Printing Co., the German National Bank, and the Security Savings Life Association. He was one of the organizers of the Wisconsin National Life Insurance Co. (1908) and served as its president (1916-1946). Oshkosh Daily Northwestern, July 29, 1918; Apr. 6, 1950; C. F.
