Booth, Charles Asa 1840 - 1913 | Wisconsin Historical Society

newspaperman, soldier, b. Covington, Pa. In 1854 he moved to Beloit with his parents, and in 1857 to Monroe where he learned the printer's trade on the Monroe Sentinel. During the Civil War he served in the 22nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865) and rose to the rank of 1st lieutenant. Returning to Monroe after the war, he purchased a part interest in the Sentinel, serving as co-editor (1865-1879) and editor and publisher (1879-1912). A Republican, he was active in local politics and was a delegate to the national convention of 1888. He was writing a history of Green County at the time of his death. Hist. of Green Co.
