James Benjamin Borden (1869 - 1939)
Educator and State Budget Director
James Benjamin Borden was born in Milton in 1869. He graduated from Milton College and the University of Wisconsin in 1897.
After serving as principal of the Marshfield high school, he became assistant state superintendent of public instruction from 1905 until 1917. In 1918 he was appointed assistant dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin.
In 1921 he was associated with the state board of public affairs as budget adviser. Under a law passed in 1929, he was appointed state budget director and served in this capacity until his death.
