Borup, Charles Williamwulff 1806 - 1859 | Wisconsin Historical Society
(Note: birth date given in original as "Dec. 10 [or 20], 1806.") fur trader, b. Copenhagen, Denmark. He was trained as a physician, and migrated to the U.S. in 1828, generally regarded as the first Danish settler in Wisconsin. He served as chief western agent of the American Fur Co. (1838-1842) with headquarters at La Pointe. Borup made a fortune in the fur trade and in the early commercial development of Lake Superior fisheries. In 1848 he moved to St. Paul, Minn. U.S. Biog.
