physician, health officer, b. Madison. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.L., 1894) and Rush Medical College, Chicago (M.D., 1897). He served in the Medical Corps during the Spanish-American War and World War I. In 1900 he began to practice medicine in Madison. He served as epidemiologist with the state board of health (1920-1928), and from 1928 until his retirement in 1947 he was health officer for the city of Madison. Highly acclaimed for his work in the field of public health, he successfully carried out such programs as smallpox vaccinations for school children, free tuberculosis clinics, and preventive health measures.
