politician, lumberman, b. Patten, Me. He moved to Menomonie in 1858. Employed by the Knapp-Stout Lumber Co., he was sent to the Rice Lake region for logging operations. In 1868 he entered the employ of the Northwestern Lumber Co. at Eau Claire. Rejoining Knapp-Stout in 1876, he rose to the position of general superintendent of logging and log driving. A Democrat, he held minor county offices and served as mayor of Rice Lake (1889, 1891, 1899). He was a director and vice-president of the First National Bank, Rice Lake. N. S. Gordon, ed., and F.
