manufacturer, b. Nierstein, Hesse, Germany. He learned mason's trade in Germany and migrated in 1854 to Milwaukee, where he followed his trade until 1870. He then purchased John and Philip Rosche's stove foundry (established in 1868) and began manufacturing stoves under the firm name of Brand and Company. His "Famous" brand stove became widely known throughout the Middle West. The firm was incorporated in 1884 as the Brand Stove Co., Ltd., with Brand serving as its president until his death.
