Oscar Dalzelle Brandenburg (1858 - 1930)
Newspaperman and Printer
Oscar Dalzelle Brandenburg was newspaperman and printer born in Flushing, Ohio. In 1865 he moved with his parents to Wisconsin, settling in Baraboo. He attended the University of Wisconsin from 1879 until 1881.
He began his newspaper career by working on the Madison Wisconsin State Journal, and was an associate editor of that paper from 1887 until 1890. In 1890 he acquired an interest in the Democrat Printing Company, a commercial printing firm which published the Madison Democrat. He was editor of the Democrat from 1890 until 1921 and also eventually acquired control of the printing company. In 1921 the newspaper was sold to the Wisconsin State Journal, but Brandenburg retained control of the Democrat Printing Company. He became a stockholder in the company publishing the Journal and was contributing editor to that paper until his death.
