Career

Emma F. Brookmire was an educator born in Marinette in 1893. She attended public schools, Oshkosh State Teachers College, and the universities of Wisconsin and Denver.

After teaching in the Marinette school system from 1915 until 1933, she became field secretary for the Wisconsin Congress of Parents and Teachers in 1933. She continued in this position until 1939, and then worked for the Wisconsin Education Association until ill health forced her retirement in 1940.

Achievements and Legacy

Under her leadership, the Wisconsin PTA increased its membership from 18,185 to 31,023. After her death, the organization established in her honor the Emma F. Brookmire Memorial Fund, a loan fund to assist young people to prepare for teaching.
