banker, politician, businessman, b. Dodge Center (now Juneau), Dodge County. He moved to Eau Claire with his parents, and was educated at an Episcopal military academy at Faribault, Minn. He started his business career with his father in a general merchandise store, but in 1883 organized the Eau Claire Grocery Company, which became one of the largest wholesalers in the state. A Republican, he served two terms as state assemblyman (1897-1900). He was an organizer and president of the Chippewa Valley Bank (1898-1906), and a director of the Union National Bank (1906-1929). Buffington was treasurer of the Chippewa Valley Light and Power Co., and director of the Valley Lumber Co. and the Carson-Rand Lumber Co.
