physician, anatomist, educator, b. Chicago, Ill. He studied at the Univ. of California (1909-1913), graduated from Creighton Univ. in Omaha (B.S., 1916; M.S., 1918; D.Sc., 1920), and received his M.D. from Rush Medical College (Chicago) in 1925. From 1914 to 1920 he was instructor and assistant professor of anatomy at Creighton. Moving to Milwaukee in 1920, Carey was professor of anatomy at Marquette Univ. Medical School (1920-1947), director of the anatomy department (1920-1933), and dean of the medical school (1933-1947). An expert in the field of scientific exhibit, he planned and directed medical exhibits for the Chicago World's Fair (1933-1934), as well as other national expositions, and was director of medical exhibits for the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry from 1934 until his death.
