newspaperman, politician, b. La Porte City, Iowa. He attended Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. In 1889 he moved to Wisconsin, settling briefly in Bayfield where he worked as a printer's devil and then moving to Ashland where he attended Northland Academy. After working several years for the Chapple Publishing Company in Boston, he returned to Ashland where he became editor of the Ashland Daily Press (founded by his brother, Joseph M. Chapple, in 1889). He served as editor of this paper until his death. A Republican, Chapple was a member of the state central committee, and was state assemblyman (1909-1910, 1917-1920, 1943-1946). He was postmaster of Ashland for 14 years, and a director of the Ashland General Hospital and Northland College. Ashland Daily Press, May 1, 1946; Madison Capital Times, May 1, 1946; Wis.
