The 52nd Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Camp Randall in Madison in April 1865, at the very end of the war. It moved to St. Louis, Missouri, then to Holden, Missouri, and served as guard workmen on the Pacific Railroad until June 21. It then moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and served on duty there until July 28, when it mustered out on July 28, 1865. The regiment lost 9 men during service, all from disease.
