lawyer, politician, b. Chilton. He graduated from the Univ. of Michigan Law School (LL.B., 1912), and following his graduation he practiced law in Green Bay. He became prominent as a defense counsel in liquor cases during prohibition and was widely known for his knowledge of the law of search and seizure. In 1921 he was appointed special prosecutor in the "clean up" of Forest County. A Democrat, he was a member of the state central committee and several times a delegate to the Democratic national convention. In 1934 he was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress. F. L.
