Cole, Azel Dow 1818 - 1885 | Wisconsin Historical Society

Episcopal clergyman, educator, b. Sterling, Conn. He graduated from Brown Univ. (1838) and from the General Theological Seminary, N.Y. (1841). After holding rectorships in Rhode Island and Michigan, he moved to Wisconsin (1849) to become pastor of St. Luke's Church in Racine. In 1850 he was elected president of Nashotah House and continued in this office until his death. In this capacity he played a major role in establishing Nashotah as a recognized theological seminary with an adequate faculty, buildings, and endowment.
