Cowie, Robert Somerville 1873 - 1951 | Wisconsin Historical Society

lawyer, judge, b. Glencoe, Buffalo County. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.L., 1894), was admitted to the bar, and set up a law practice in Arcadia. He later moved to Whitehall where he continued his law practice and served as district attorney. In 1902 he was appointed deputy auditor of the navy and served in Washington, D.C., until returning to Whitehall (1903). He served as county judge of Trempealeau County and was a member of the state board of control (1908-1910). In 1918 he moved to La Crosse and in 1924 was elected judge of the 6th judicial circuit, serving from 1925 until his death. Madison Wis. State Journal, Oct. 9, 1951; F. L. Holmes, et al., eds., Wis.
