Crawford, George 1849 - 1927 | Wisconsin Historical Society

newspaperman, politician, b. near Enniskillen, Ireland. When he was less than a year old, his parents migrated to the U.S., settling in Lafayette County, where his brother, ROBERT MOFFETT CRAW-FORD, was born. In 1866 the family moved to Mineral Point where both boys learned the printer's trade in the office of the National Democrat. In 1874 George purchased a part interest in the paper, and in 1877 Robert acquired the remaining interest. Changing the title to the Iowa County Democrat, the brothers issued the paper until Robert's death in 1921. Both staunch Democrats, they reflected the views of that party in their newspaper. George was post-master of Mineral Point (1885-1889, 1915-1924). Robert was postmaster of Mineral Point (1893-1897), and was state assemblyman (1891-1892). Mineral Point Iowa Co.
