Dictionary of Wisconsin History.

Jesuit missionary, in New France 1655 to 1697; after serving among the Iroquois and traveling to Hudson Bay, he accompanied Marquette to the Upper Country; as author of several annual Jesuit Relations he was the first to report Lake Superior copper deposits, and communicated details about Wisconsin Indian life and customs to European readers.
