Daggett, Samuel Slater 1812 - 1868
businessman, insurance executive, b. Attleborough, Mass. He moved to Milwaukee in 1844, where he became a partner in a general merchandise store. In 1848 he sold his interest in the store and entered the insurance business. He was president of the Milwaukee Mutual Fire Insurance Company (1848-1858). In 1859 he was one of a group of Milwaukeeans who acquired the Mutual Life Insurance Company of the State of Wisconsin, located at Janesville, moved its office to Milwaukee, and built it into the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Daggett was president of this company (1859-1868), and served in various capacities with other Milwaukee financial establishments. A Republican, he held local political offices. H. L.
