Seventh-day Baptist clergyman, college president, b. New York City. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute (B.A., 1879), Union Theological Seminary (1886), and Alfred Univ. (M.A., 1887). He was pastor of Seventh-day Baptist Churches in Brooklyn and New Jersey (1874-1886), Leonardsville, N.Y. (1886-1891), Westerly, R.I. (1891-1896), and Mill Yard Church, London, England (1896-1900). Returning to the U.S. in 1900, he was again pastor at Leonardsville (1900-1902), and in 1902 came to Wisconsin as president of Milton College. In this position, which he held from 1902 until his death, Daland increased the college plant and curriculum, and helped build a strong music department. A Hebrew scholar, he translated the "Song of Songs" into English in 1887. E. B. Usher, Wis. (8 vols., Chicago, 1914); R. B.
