Formerly special asst. attorney general of Wis., town attorney, attorney for school boards. World War I veteran; served in 120th Field Artillery, 32nd division. Member natl. exec. cam. Disabled Amer. Veterans, past state comdr. Disabled Amer. Veterans; past comdr. Amer. Legion, member Amer. Legion natl. security com.; past natl. pres. of Soc. of Amer. Legion Founders, member of natl. exec. com. ; member U.S. Chapter Army and Navy Air Force in Canada. Member board of governors Wis. Bar Assn.; pres. Washington County Bar Assn.; member Milwaukee County Bar Assn. and its advisory fees com. Served as justice of peace; chairman Washington County school corn., dir. of school board. Served on state Soldiers Rehabilitation Board. Elected to Supreme Court April 1958 for term beginning Jan. 1959, defeating appointed Justice Emmett L. Wingert. (Blue Book 1964)
