surgeon, b. Waynesburg, Pa. He graduated from Starling Medical College, Columbus, Ohio (M.D., 1889). He moved to Ashland in 1889, where he set up a practice. He was chief surgeon at St. Joseph's Hospital (1904-1915) and was instrumental in the establishment of Ashland General Hospital in 1917. He was president of the Wisconsin State Medical Society (1911) and secretary of the state board of medical examiners (1915-1924). He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the board of trustees of Northland College, and mayor of Ashland (1911-1913, 1933-1939). He continued to practice in Ashland until his death, and was the author of The Autobiography of a Surgeon (1928). Who's Who in Amer., 25 (1948); E. B. Usher, Wis. (8 vols., Chicago, 1914); M. M.
