Dodge, Joseph Thompson 1823 - 1904 | Wisconsin Historical Society

civil engineer, b. Barre, Vt. He graduated from the Univ. of Vermont (1845), and began work as a civil engineer on the Vermont Central R.R. He was employed in the St. Louis area from 1849 to 1852. In 1853 he moved to Wisconsin and constructed the railroad lines from Stoughton to Madison and from Janesville to Monroe. He later superintended construction of the Yellowstone & Rocky Mountain division of the Northern Pacific R.R., the Montana Central R.R., and many others. In 1887 he retired and made his home in Madison, where he was at work on a genealogy of the Dodge family at his death. Proc. State Hist. Soc. Wis., 1904 (1905); Madison Democrat, Feb. 7, 1904; J. T.
