He graduated from Lawrence College (A.B., 1920), studied at the Univ. of Wisconsin (1920-1921) and the Univ. of Washington (1921-1922), and taught speech at the Univ. of Wisconsin (1922-1927). In 1922 he was admitted to the Washington bar, and after 1927 he practiced law in Milwaukee. Widely known as a public speaker, he was the author of several books in that field. He was active in several professional organizations, and was president of the Wisconsin bar association (1940) and the Milwaukee bar association (1937).
