physician, b. Mackinac Island, Mich. He was the brother of Hercules L. Dousman (q.v.). He studied medicine in Keene, N.H., Boston, Mass., and New York, and in 1840 moved to Wisconsin, settling in Waukesha where he set up a medical practice. In 1842 he moved to Milwaukee, practicing medicine in that city for the remainder of his life. Dousman was prominent in developing many of the early medical societies in Wisconsin; he was president of the 'Wisconsin Territorial and State Medical Societies (1847-1849), was treasurer of the Milwaukee Medical Association (1845), and also served as treasurer (1847) and president (1848, 1855) of the Milwaukee City Medical Association.
