architect, b. Boston, Mass., brother of Franz C. Eschweiler (q.v.). He moved to Milwaukee with his parents in 1882, attended Marquette College (1884), and graduated from Cornell Univ. (B.S., 1890). Returning to Milwaukee, he established his own architectural firm (1892). He conducted this office alone until 1924, when he took his three sons into the firm. Although not original in his architectural designs, Eschweiler was one of the most successful architects in the Milwaukee area, designing schools, churches, office buildings, and private residences. He retired in 1935, leaving the business to his sons, and thereafter lived at North Lake, Waukesha County, until his death. He was president of the Milwaukee Art Association, a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and president of the Wisconsin chapter of that organization. J. G.
