Everett, Charles Horatio 1855 - 1947 | Wisconsin Historical Society

editor, agricultural leader, politician, b. Turtle township, Rock County. He farmed until 1895, and for 15 years lectured during winters at farmers' institutes. In the late 1890's he was a member and secretary of the state board of agriculture. He was editor of the Wisconsin Agriculturist (1900-1929), published at Racine by Andrew and Arthur Simonson. In 1902 the Agriculturist absorbed Farm, Field and Stockman of Winona, Minn., and in 1914, the Lake Superior Farmer. A Republican, Everett was state assemblyman (1913-1914) and state senator (1915-1918). In the legislature and in his farm paper, he worked to secure basic laws for milk and dairy products and opposed unfair trade practices in dairy substitutes. He was chairman of the state livestock sanitary board and 3 times president of the Wisconsin Dairymen's Association. In 1930 he retired to California.
