Favre, Brett Lorenzo, 1969 -
Green Bay Packers quarterback regarded by many as one of the finest athletes ever to play the game; raised in Kiln, Mississippi, Favre attended Univ. of Southern Mississippi, joined Green Bay Packers in 1992, and announced his retirement on March 4, 2008. Favre changed his mind about retiring during the following summer and attempted to rejoin the Packers. He and the team's management could not come to terms, however, and after much rancor on both sides, he was traded to the New York Jets where he played the 2008 season. Although he retired again after that season, in the spring of 2009 Favre decided to play another year and signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Among the all-time league records he earned are the most touchdown passes (442), most passing yards (61,655), most wins by a starting quarterback (160), most consecutive starts for a quarterback (253; 275 including playoffs), most pass completions (5,377), and most NFL Most Valuable Player awards (3).
