college president, b. Schiermonnikoog (Gray Monks Island), Province of Friesland, the Netherlands. He migrated to the U.S. with his parents at an early age, settling in Yankton, S.D. He graduated from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1899, and during the same year was chosen principal of North Wisconsin Academy at Ashland. In 1907 he became the first president of the newly established Northland College, a position that he held until 1914. During his tenure he was responsible for establishing the college on a sound financial basis and also was instrumental in the construction of many of the school's first buildings. In 1914 he moved to Oregon and engaged in farming near Portland. From 1924 to 1925 he taught at Pacific Univ., and later at Hill Military Academy near Portland. N. B.
