Ferry, George Bowman 1851 - 1918
architect, b. Springfield, Mass. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1871-1872). In 1881 he moved to Milwaukee where he became senior partner, designer, and architectural critic in the firm of Ferry and Clas. Among the noteworthy Wisconsin buildings that he designed are the State Historical Society building in Madison, the Milwaukee Public Library, and the Northwestern National Insurance building, Atheneum building, St. John's Cathedral tower, and the Unitarian Church, all of Milwaukee. He was awarded special recognition for the Wisconsin buildings at the Louisiana Purchase and Pan American expositions, and at the International Architectural Exhibit at the Paris World's Fair.
