Fifield, Samuel S. 1839 - 1915 | Wisconsin Historical Society
Former Lieutenant governor, state senator, speaker of the assembly and journalist. He became a resident of Wisconsin in 1854 and engaged in the newspaper business. Moved to Ashland and elected chairman of its first town board of supervisiors in 1872. Sergeant of arms of the assembly 1871-72. Assemblyman 1874, 1875 and 1876. Speaker during 1876. State senator 1877, 1880 and 1881. Lieutenant governor during the administration of Governor Jeremiah M. Rusk. Served 16 years as postmaster of Ashland .
