a historic alliance of the Oneida, Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Seneca nations who came together at least as early as the 12th century in New York and Ontario; also called by some writers The Iroquois League, they called themselves the Haudenosaunee, or "People of the Longhouse."
