Lutheran clergyman, college president, b. Gloppen, Nordfjord, Norway. He migrated to the U.S. in 1879, and graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa (B.A., 1891). He attended Luther Seminary (1891-1894), and in 1894 was ordained a minister in the Lutheran Church. He was pastor at Eau Claire, Wis. (1894-1895), at Spring Prairie (1895-1899), and at Rio (1899-1901). From 1901 to 1918 he was president of Gale College at Galesville, and from 1918 to 1938 was pastor at Orfordville.
