lawyer, editor, author, b. Mogilno, Poland. He attended St. Mary's College, Kansas, and in 1890 moved to Milwaukee. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (LL.B., 1893), and set up a law practice in Milwaukee. During World War I he was active in the movement to create an independent Polish state, and was also editor of the magazine Free Poland. Gonski later received awards from the Polish government for these activities. In 1919 he served as liaison officer to the Polish troops fighting in Siberia. Returning to Milwaukee, Gonski continued his law practice. He translated several Polish short stories, and was the author of numerous articles on Polish history.
