born Kenosha, Feb. 11, 1918. Educated Kenosha public and high schools; graduated Phi Beta Kappa from University of Wisconsin; received B.A. (high honors) and M.A. in 1939; in 1942 LL.B. from Harvard University. Law clerk to federal judge 1942; worked as practicing attorney until 1950. Served as judge of the Milwaukee County Civil Court, 1950-55; as circuit judge for the 2nd Circuit (Milwaukee County), 1955-61. Past state commander of the Disabled American Veterans; member of American Legion; past president of the Milwaukee Hearing Society, a Red Feather agency. Elected to Supreme Court in April 1961 for term beginning Jan. 1962, to fill the vacancy resulting from the retirement of Chief Justice John E. Martin. (Blue Book 1966)
