Graham, Robert 1826 - 1892 | Wisconsin Historical Society

teacher, educator, b. Putnam, Washington County, N.Y. He graduated from the Albany (N.Y.) Normal School and taught school in New York (1846-1861). In 1861 he moved to Wisconsin, where he taught school in Kenosha and later served as county superintendent of schools. During the Civil War he served as captain (1864) with the 39th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (100-day volunteers). After his army service, he returned to Kenosha, and in 1871 joined the faculty of the state normal school at Oshkosh. Graham was elected state superintendent of public instruction in 1881, and served from Jan., 1882, to Jan., 1887, After leaving office, he returned to Oshkosh. R. G. Thwaites, ed., Univ. of Wis.
