druggist, b. Providence, R.I. He was trained in the drug business in Rhode Island. He moved to Milwaukee in 1848, and in 1849 established a retail drugstore with Henry H. Button (q.v.). The firm eventually grew into one of the leading wholesale drug businesses in Milwaukee (known as the Milwaukee Drug Co. after the death of its founders). Greene was president of the Milwaukee Cement Co. and a director of the Milwaukee Gas Light Co. and the Northwestern National Insurance Co. Interested in the study of paleontology, he gathered a large collection of fossils, which was eventually donated to Milwaukee-Downer College. Milwaukee Journal, Sept. 8, 1894; H.
