farmer, politician, Congressman, b. West Salem, La Crosse County. He studied agriculture at the Univ. of Wisconsin, and was secretary (1907-1930) and president (1930-1936) of the La Crosse County Guernsey breeders' association. He was also president and director of the Wisconsin Guernsey breeders' association, served on the West Salem school board (1912-1929), and was a member of the Wisconsin board of vocational education (1930-1936). A Republican, he was state senator (1933-1936) and in 1938 was elected to Congress from the 3rd district, but died shortly after taking office. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1950); Wis.
