Hazelton, Gerry Whiting 1829 - 1920
Iawyer, politician, Congressman, b. Chester, Rockingham County, N.H. He was the brother of George C. Hazel-ton (q.v.). He studied law and was admitted to the New York bar in 1852. He practiced for several years in Amsterdam, N.Y., and in 1856 moved to Wisconsin, settling in Columbus. A Republican, he was a delegate to the national convention of 1860, and was state senator (1861-1862). He served for a time as district attorney for Columbia County, and in 1866 was collector of internal revenue for the 2nd district of Wisconsin. In 1870 he was elected to Congress and served two terms (Mar. 1871-Mar. 1875). In 1876 he moved to Milwaukee, and served by appointment as U.S. attorney for the eastern district of Wisconsin (1876-1885). Hazelton was also U.S. court commissioner and court commissioner for Milwaukee County. He continued to practice law in Milwaukee until his death. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1928); J. G.
