Horn, Frederick William 1815 - 1893 | Wisconsin Historical Society
lawyer, politician, newspaperman, b. Linum, Brandenburg, Prussia. He migrated to the U.S. in 1836. In 1840 he moved to Wisconsin and in 1847 settled near Cedarburg, Ozaukee County. He was a lawyer and practiced for several years. A Democrat, he was state senator (1848, 1849-1850) and state assemblyman (1851, 1854, 1857, 1859-1860). He was state immigration commissioner (1854-1855). Horn was a delegate to the Democratic national convention of 1860 at both Baltimore and Charleston, and, although out of office during the Civil War, was outspoken in his opposition to the hostilities. He again served in the state assembly (1867-1868, 1872, 1875, 1882, 1887-1890), and was state senator from 1891 until his death.
