Kading, Charles August 1874 - 1956
lawyer, politician, Congressman, b. Lowell, Dodge County. He attended the Univ. of Wisconsin, and graduated from Valparaiso (Ind.) Univ. (LL.B., 1900). From 1900 to 1925 he practiced law in Watertown in partnership with his wife, Elizabeth, and in 1929 formed a partnership with his son, Charles E. Kading. He was city attorney of Watertown (1905-1912), district attorney for Dodge County (1907-1913), and mayor of Watertown (1914-1916). A Democrat, during World War I he became a supporter of Robert M. La Follette, Sr. (q.v.), and in 1926 was elected to Congress on the Republican ticket. He was twice re-elected, and served from 1927 until 1933. After leaving Congress, he returned to his law office in Watertown and practiced until his death. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1950); Who's Who in Amer., 17 (1932); Wis.
