businessman, insurance executive, author, b. Canaan, Conn. He moved with his family to Wisconsin in 1836, settling first at Southport (Kenosha) and then at Milwaukee. He graduated from Wesleyan College, Middletown, Conn. (A.B., 1858). A Republican, he was a temperance advocate, and an active layman in the Methodist Church. He was secretary of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. (1859-1870), and from 1870 to 1873 was vice-president of the Republic Life Insurance Co. of Chicago. This company failed in the panic of 1873, and in 1880 Kellogg re-turned to Milwaukee where he operated his own insurance business. He retired to Madison in 1910 and devoted his later years to writing for religious journals. He was the author of two histories of Methodism. Wis. Mag. Hist., 7, 8; Northwestern Mutual Life Ins.
