newspaperman, businessman, politician, b. Oeffelt, Holland. He migrated to the U.S. and to Wisconsin in 1886, settling in De Pere. He worked for a number of years as a printer's apprentice, and in 1890 became editor of the Dutch-language newspaper, Volksstem. In the same year he also became co-editor, with John B. Heyrman, of the De Pere Brown County Democrat, continuing in this capacity until 1916. In 1916 he established the Brown County journal, acquired the De Pere News in 1918, and in 1919 purchased the Democrat, combining the three papers as the De Pere journal-Democrat. He was editor and publisher of this paper until his death. Kuypers was president of the Wisconsin Press Association (1918-1931), and president of the State Bank of De Pere (1922-1933). A Democrat, he was mayor of De Pere (1902-1906), postmaster (1915-1925), for several years a member of the Democratic state central committee, and a delegate to the national convention of 1932. F. L.
