Lacher, John Henry Alois 1856 - 1936 | Wisconsin Historical Society

teacher, businessman, historian, b. Hamilton County, Ohio. He was educated at Notre Dame Univ. After teaching at various colleges and academies (1874-1879), he entered the sales branch of the shoe manufacturing industry, a field in which he remained until 1922. In 1897 he settled in Waukesha. He was the founder (1914) and custodian, until 1934, of the museum of the Waukesha County Historical Society, and was a curator (1917-1936) and vice-president (1922-1936) of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. In 1918 he served as a member of the State War History Commission and as chairman of the Waukesha County war history committee. He was a member of the Wisconsin Free Library Commission for six years. A speaker and writer on salesmanship, economics, and history, he wrote many articles dealing with the early history of Wisconsin and with the state's German element.
