Zachary Taylor

A portrait of Zachary Taylor, 12th President of the United States, 1849-1850. Born in Virginia on November 24, 1784, Taylor died in office on July 9, 1850 upon getting sick from eating cherries and milk at a July 4th celebration. He was the second president to die in office. Taylor, nicknamed "Old Rough and Ready," was a career army officer, who served for 40 years and was a General during the Mexican War. |
