George Fifield was a Janesville physician. His ancestors were natives of New Hampshire who settled in Wisconsin in 1837. His uncle, Elbridge, opened the first lumberyard in Janesville. George Fifield was born in 1872 and attended medical school at Northwestern University. He began his Janesville practice in 1896 and became the area's leading physician. In 1926, The Rock River Valley noted that his name was a "household word to the people of Rock County." The Fifield's only child, Thomas B. (1916-2007) was a well-known Milwaukee attorney.
